Maths 20/20 is a series of textbooks and workbooks written for students studying G1 Syllabus Mathematics. The name 'Maths 20/20' draws inspiration from Vision 20/20, an expression to describe clarity of vision. Similarly, Maths 20/20 aims to help students achieve clarity in their understanding of the fundamentals of mathematics. The name also makes reference to the first year of implementation of the latest syllabus, which started in 2020 at Secondary 1.
The central focus of the mathematics curriculum is the development of mathematical problem solving competency, which is supported by 5 inter-related components: attitudes, metacognition, processes, concepts and skills.
The aims of this syllabus are to enable students to:
- acquire mathematical concepts and skills for real life and to support learning in other subjects;
- develop thinking, reasoning, communication, application and metacognitive skills through a mathematical approach to problem solving;
- connect ideas within mathematics and between mathematics and other subjects through application of mathematics; and build confidence in using mathematics and appreciate its value in making informed decisions in real life.
